Over 20 years ago, Keiron designed Henry and Jeannie’s home in Albany. Their brief was short: something ageless, sheltered from the easterlies, with a connection to the sea. When it came time to build in Perth, they came back to us.

The site is a tight 257m² corner block in an established Claremont street. The land falls two metres to the front, and the house shares a party wall with the neighbour to the south. The design puts two storeys over an undercroft garage, which takes the cars off a crowded street. The living spaces and generous balconies open to the north for winter sun. White louvred screens wrap the upper level to let in light and breeze while keeping the neighbours’ privacy. Warm timber panels and planter boxes soften the edge to the street.

Getting it approved took patience. The Town of Claremont asked for several rounds of changes, and Keiron worked through each one, refining the design and making the case for every variation until it was approved. From our Albany studio, we coordinated the structural engineer, bushfire and energy assessors and the certifier. That means Superior Homes WA starts construction with one complete, consistent set of documents.

Most of all, this project has been a true collaboration. Henry and Jeannie have backed us at every step with trust, good humour and constant encouragement, even when council sent us back to the drawing board. Clients like them make the work a joy, and we’re grateful for the friendship that has grown over two decades and two homes.

We can’t wait to see this one come to life.
